Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada announced the 2025 Express Entry categories, introducing a new education category to better align federal economic immigrant selection with Canada’s long-term labour shortages.
In 2025, federal economic class draws will prioritize inviting candidates with Canadian work experience (Canadian Experience Class) to apply for permanent residence.
Additionally, to support Francophone immigration targets and address critical labour shortages in health, trades, and education, IRCC will conduct category-based invitation rounds in the following categories:
- French-language proficiency
- Healthcare and social services occupations, such as family physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, pharmacists, psychologists and chiropractors
- Trade occupations, such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors
- Education occupations, such as teachers, child care educators and instructors of persons with disabilities
